Trucks are powerful, versatile, and necessary tools for many jobs and projects, but few trucks are as multi-use as cab & chassis models. We don’t expect you to just take our word for it, however!

We here at California Truck Centers want to help you get the perfect tool, so we’ve put together a few of the many ways a cab & chassis truck (also called a chassis cab truck) can be used, below. To learn more, or to see the cab & chassis trucks we have for sale, contact our stores throughout California, today!

Common Bodies

Cab & chassis trucks are desirable because they come without any bed to speak of. The reinforced frame, or chassis, that sits behind the cab can be equipped with any number of bodies and beds so the truck can be the tool you need. These are some of the more common options!

Dump Bodies

By adding a dump body to a cab & chassis truck’s frame you manage to create a smaller and more agile dump truck. These dump-capable trucks are much lighter and more maneuverable than heavy duty dump trucks and other similar tools. The comparatively small size does mean they won’t hold as much material, but they’ll have a much easier time navigating complicated or tight worksites.

Service Bodies

Also called a service bed, this body type adds a plethora of storage compartments to a cab & chassis truck’s frame along with a pickup truck-style bed. Certain service bodies may also come equipped with a telescoping or crane-like arm, making them perfect for utility work and as a mobile workstation for forestry and construction projects. Service bodies tend to be made with rust-proof and corrosion-resistant aluminum, as well, ensuring a lightweight but durable construction.

Crane Upfits

This has some overlap with a service body, but a crane upfit places a large crane in the bed of a cab & chassis truck, allowing you to haul heavy loads and place them where they’re needed. These cranes can also be equipped with a bucket to allow workers to access high places they might otherwise struggle to reach.

Common Uses

Cab & chassis trucks, thanks to their multitool-like starting point, are highly prized tools in many fields of work, including but not limited to:

  • Agriculture
  • Utility work
  • Construction projects
  • Landscaping projects

These tools are ready and waiting for the right operator and the right refit to make them into a specialized machine that can tackle any job!
