If you’re in the market for a new box truck, you’ll want to look over some of our helpful tips below! If you’re located in the state of California be sure to stop at one of our convenient locations across the state to see our expansive inventory of trucks.

Size & Weight

One of the most important things to consider when purchasing your box truck is its size. Buy your truck too large and you’ll waste quite a bit of extra money keeping it maintained when you don’t really need the extra space. However, if you buy a truck that's too small you may end up making quite a few extra trips and wearing down your vehicle.

You’ll also need to consider your truck’s weight capabilities. Just because your cargo fits in the back doesn’t mean your box truck is equipped to handle its weight. Before you arrive at the dealership, take some time to consider what you’ll be transporting in your box truck, how much it will weigh, and its general proportions.

Height

While it’s important to consider the size of the cargo you’ll be carrying, you’ll also want to think about where you’ll be driving your box truck. If you’re regularly passing under low bridges or driving through tunnels you’ll need to be sure that your truck isn’t too tall to fit in these areas, or that there are alternate routes available.

Door Type

Generally speaking, there are two door types available on box trucks; roll-up and swing-out. Roll-up doors are best if you’re working off a dock. They stay conveniently out of the way and are easy to access if you’re not on the ground.

Swing-out doors are usually found on lighter trucks, which are a bit shorter on average. While these are great for workers loading cargo from the ground, they would pose quite a few problems if you were working from a dock. If you’re not careful you could end up crushing the doors while reversing toward the dock, or the truck may even be too short to reach the top of the platform.
