How to Wash Your Dump Truck
If you’ve recently purchased a new dump truck, you may not realize how important washing your equipment can be. While dump trucks are pretty durable pieces of equipment, even strong metal surfaces can corrode away if the layers of muck and mulch on your model are allowed to build up over time. To learn how to successfully wash your dump trailer and keep it from rusting, you’ll want to read our helpful instructions below!
Helpful Equipment
If your dump truck isn’t looking too shabby, it may only require a quick scrub with an automotive soap, a hose, and a durable scrub brush. However, dump trucks are well known for accumulating some impressive gunk and grime and if you haven’t washed your model in over 6 months you may want to purchase a gentle acid and special wax for metal surfaces to help deep-clean your truck.
Sweep, Spray, and Scrub
Regardless of how dirty your dump truck is, you’ll want to get started by sweeping out the bed of your trailer and throwing away any trash that you find inside. Once this is done, you’ll want to grab a nearby pressure washer and set to work removing all of the caked-on mud and dirt that’s built up on your truck over the last few weeks. When rinsing your dump truck, don’t forget to spray both the inside, outside, and underside of your equipment. While the bed of your truck may be the dirtiest, to avoid corrosion, the outside of your trailer will also need to be rinsed and washed.
Apply Your Products
Now that the worst of the grime has been removed, you’ll want to grab a scrub brush and automotive soap to begin cleaning your dump truck from top to bottom. Because you removed the majority of the dirt and debris with the powerwasher, this should take no time at all! Once you’re done, you’ll want to spray away the suds and leave the truck in the sun to dry. However, if you’re using an acid on your equipment, you’ll need to apply this on your trailer before scrubbing it with automotive soap and rinsing the products away. After the dump truck has dried, don't forget that you’ll need to apply a protective wax coat on your equipment before you’re done for the day.
